The one-year anniversary of Once Human brings with it Version 2.0 and the long-awaited introduction of the Class System. Starry Studios, developers of Once Human, reviewed player data and concluded that the original randomized memetic system failed to encourage the diverse playstyles they had envisioned. Instead, players were funneled into meta-focused, min-max builds that lacked variety.

According to Starry, the Chef class is inspired by real-life cooking. Novices follow recipes, experts refine them, and masters invent their own. The new class aims to move away from formulaic cooking and introduce Creative Cooking, a system of trial-and-error experimentation designed to produce innovative dishes with dynamic effects.
Starting Equipment:
- Campfire Stove. Allows cooking anywhere, even outside player territory.
- Gourmet Atlas. Automatically records and stores all discovered Creative Cooking recipes.
Core Ability:
- Creative Cooking: Freely choose ingredients to craft unique dishes without being restricted by recipes. During creative cooking, there's a chance for a Success that grants the dish enhanced effects with longer durations.
Unique Talents:
- Glutton. Allows consumption of additional food and drink, granting up to 2 food effects and 2 drink effects simultaneously.
- Ingredient Scent. Increases the chance to obtain ingredients from Fridges, Beverage Machines, and Food Crates.
- Fine Cuisine. Repeatedly consuming the same creative dish enhances both its effect strength and duration over time.
